Destination Ag Gives Local Students a Hands-On Look at Agriculture

On April 24, local second-grade students took part in Destination Ag through a collaborative effort between the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, and Chehaw Park. Destination Ag is an interactive educational program that helps students understand the role agriculture and natural resources play in everyday life while reinforcing classroom learning standards.

Each year, schools within the District’s nine-county service area are randomly selected to participate in the program. This year’s participants included second-grade students from Pataula Charter Academy. Students explored the importance of pollinators in agriculture and discovered the economic significance of Georgia’s forestry industry.

“Programs like Destination Ag give students the opportunity to experience agriculture in a hands-on way, while helping them better understand the importance of natural resources and Georgia agriculture,” said Abby Bodiford, Education Coordinator for the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District.
