On April 26th, the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District partnered with Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, and Chehaw Park to bring Destination Ag to local second-grade students. Destination Ag is an experiential learning program that exposes students to agriculture and natural resources in their daily lives while addressing educational standards.
Each year, schools are randomly selected from within the District’s nine counties. This year, second-grade students from Pataula Charter Academy and Morningside Elementary School had the opportunity to learn about the importance of pollinators in agriculture, as well as the economics of one of Georgia’s top commodities - the forestry industry. To complete this energetic program of hands-on learning, students and teachers enjoyed a program featuring some of Southwest Ga’s wildlife from experts at the Chehaw Park Zoo.
One Pataula Charter School teacher said, “We are so appreciative of the opportunity to get out of the classroom and be part of this hands-on program.”
