We sat down with Mr. David Holton, Supervisor for Flint River Soil Water Conservation District as he celebrates 20 years of service to the organization.
David Holton is a farmer from Mitchell County. I have been married to my wife, Cindy, for 49 years. We have one daughter, Mandy, and two grandchildren. I have been on the farm all my life and began farming on my own in 1995. I mainly grow cotton and peanuts and have some timberland.
Twenty years ago David had a longtime friend and neighbor named, Mr. C. M. Stripling who had served with Flint River Soil & Water for many years. Mr. C. M. came to me and asked if I would serve on the Flint River Soil & Water Board. I was very humbled and honored that Mr. C. M. asked this of me.
From his many projects, Retrofitting Irrigations from high pressure to low pressure and help getting diesel converted over to electric. Also, VRI being one of his favorite projects to help improve and save water.
So much of his land has been put into Center Pivots, ideally his operation would like to see a stronger push for a good tree program that could be used on dryland and wind brakes between fields and/or to help bring back the quail population in Southwest Georgia in the near future.
