The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District has a lot of new faces, and a few you may recognize. We’ll be taking the next few weeks to introduce and re-introduce you to our wonderful team, share more about their role at the District, and a bit about each of them. The next feature in our Meet our Team series is Bryce Phillips. Bryce joined the District as the 2020 Smart Irrigation Intern — our first ever intern! Bryce is an upcoming senior at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. Bryce will be working with District staff and our partners at UGA to provide outreach and technical assistance to the AgWet project and other smart irrigation projects. Read our interview with Bryce below and be sure to reach out to smartirrigation@flintriverswcd.org to introduce yourself to Bryce!
Where are you originally from?
I am from Lenox, Georgia
What impact to you hope to make as a part of the District?
While working for the District, I hope to make an impact on the people I meet and know that I helped them learn something new about conservation.
What inspires you to work in conservation?
During high school I was first introduced to the importance of water conservation through the Auburn University Stream Team program. While serving on the Auburn Stream Team I was fortunate to study and monitor two creeks in Dothan, Alabama. After monitoring the creeks my team and I presented our results to the local extension office. Throughout my time serving on the Auburn Stream Team, I found a love for conservation and knew this is the type of work I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
If you were a common Georgia crop, what would it be?
If I were a common Georgia crop, I would be a peanut. This is because peanuts serve as everyone's favorite snack that always knows how to put a smile on a person's face. So, just like the peanut I always try to impact people in a positive way and put a smile on their faces.
What could we find you doing on a typical Saturday afternoon?
On a typical Saturday afternoon you can find me surrounded by my family or friends. Whether it is sitting by a fire or watching a movie, one of my favorite things is to be surrounded by the people I love.
Anything else you’d like our supporters to know?
I am a senior at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College pursuing a degree in Agricultural Communications and Crop Production. During my time at ABAC I have served as Ag Editor for The Stallion Newspaper, a Community Assistant for ABAC's Residence Life and Housing Office, and brother in the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
