Meet our Team: Summer Sheffield

The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District has a lot of new faces, and a few you may recognize. We’ll be taking the next few weeks to introduce and re-introduce you to our wonderful team, share more about their role at the District, and a bit about each of them. The next feature in our Meet our Team series is Summer Sheffield. Summer joined the team in June 2018 as a GACD District Program Assistant for the Blakely area. As a GACD District Program Assistant, Summer supports GACD duties for Area 3, supports with administrative duties in the Blakely NRCS office, and directly supports the District in activities such as education programs, the annual poster contest, and pollinator garden initiative. Read our interview with Summer below!

Where are you originally from?

The Great State of Baker!

What impact to you hope to make as a part of the District?

I hope to impact and make great impressions on the youth of our community to expand their minds on agriculture at a young age. Practice makes perfect! Also, I enjoy being an example to young females... girls like dirt, too!

What inspires you to work in conservation?

I am inspired to work in conservation by my father. He takes so much pride in his land and its natural resources. Knowing that I can provide assistance and contribute to other farmers/producers in our area who seek interest in conservation is extremely fulfilling.

If you were a common Georgia crop, what would it be?

A Vidalia onion because I am an acquired taste!

What could we find you doing on a typical Saturday afternoon?

I will either be in the backyard playing with my pup, my niece, and my nephew.... or curled up on the couch binge-watching movies and Netflix shows. There is no in between.

Anything else exciting that you’d like our supporters to know?

The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District is THE BEST! Let's keep it up!
