Destination Ag
Destination Ag provides students with hands-on learning experiences about Georgia’s #1 industry, agriculture, and the natural resources on which we all depend.
Destination Ag is a program of ABAC’s Georgia Museum of Agriculture, with the mission to be a dynamic educational program that connects students and teachers to the importance of agriculture and natural resources in their daily lives. This mission is implemented through hands-on experiences and a focus on career paths in these industries.
Every year, the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors second-grade classes from one of its districts to attend Destination Ag for a full day of engaging with conservation topics while meeting state education standards.
Previously, the donor-funded program was available only for on-site field trips in Berrien, Irwin, Tift, Cook, and Colquitt Counties. In 2019, a dynamic partnership between Destination Ag and the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District expanded the program into additional southwest Georgia counties through a partnership with Chehaw Park in Albany, Georgia.

Previous Destination Ag Participants

Students from Early County Elementary School and Pelham Elementary School had the opportunity to explore the importance of pollinators in agriculture and learn about Georgia’s forestry industry.

Classes from Pataula Charter Academy and Morningside Elementary School spent the day at the Chehaw Park Zoo. Not only did students learn about pollinators and Georgia’s forestry industry, but they also got to see zoo staff handle live animals.

Flint River SWCD sponsored second grade students from Seminole County Elementary School. Students rotated through four stations to learn about the importance of natural resources. The highlight was kids getting to see native animals such as the gopher tortoise!

Students visited the Cloud Livestock Facility in Bainbridge and the Early County Ag Building in Blakely to learn about environmental topics.

Second graders from Dougherty County’s Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School visited Chehaw Park to learn about various aspects and careers in agriculture and natural resources.
