Albany, GA – Flint River Fresh proudly announces the launch of its newest youth development program - New Fresh Urban Farmers (NFUF). This innovative program combines agriculture, mentorship, and other introductory work experience through a paid work-based internship with Flint River Fresh.
Feral Swine Coordinator Role Open to Applicants
The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District (FRSWCD) is accepting applications for the position of Feral Swine Coordinator. The Feral Swine Coordinator will support the District program staff with outreach, training, and other program needs through the Albany Area Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Project. This position reports directly to the executive director of FRSWCD.
GACD Scholarship Application is Due December 31
Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) has opened up applications to their annual scholarship. Every year, GACD awards one $1,000 scholarship to encourage study and careers in soil and water conservation. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION SUBMISSION IS DECEMBER 31, 2024.
GACD Award Nominations Open until December 31
The Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) has opened nominations for its 2025 Hall of Fame. These awards recognize any individual, living or deceased, who has made unusual and extraordinary contributions to conservation. Only current GACD members can nominate someone, and they must complete the application by December 31.
USDA-NRCS in Georgia Announces Environmental Quality Incentives Program Sign-Up
ATHENS, GA, October 1, 2024 — State Conservationist Terrance O. Rudolph of the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announces a Fiscal Year 2025 statewide federal assistance opportunity for agricultural and forest producers, through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). This sign-up that concludes on November 15, 2024, will utilize 2018 Farm Bill and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding.

Destination Ag Educates Elementary Students on Farming and Resource Conservation
On April 26th, the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District partnered with Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, and Chehaw Park to bring Destination Ag to local second-grade students. On February 1, researchers at the Jones Center at Ichauway and Auburn University premiered a short film entitled “Discovering the Value of Agricultural Wetlands” at the Crossroads Facility at the Jones Center at Ichauway in Newton, Georgia. The film, produced by Motion House Media, highlights the ecological value of wetlands located within agricultural fields.

USDA Announces Conservation Reserve Program General Signup for 2024
Athens, GA., March 4, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that agricultural producers and private landowners can begin signing up for the general Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) starting March 4 and running through March 29, 2024.
2024 Stewardship Week Poster Contest
The Flint River Soil & Water Conservation District is pleased to announce the 2024 Stewardship Week theme: “May The Forest be With You Always”. Stewardship Week will be celebrated April 28 - May 5, 2024. This is an annual celebration to promote natural resource conservation across various topics including soil, water, and habitat.
UPDATE: Skywater Project Hits Major Milestone
One of Flint River SWCD’s sponsored programs saw a new development in 2023. Skywater, a project plan to restore the water flow through Radium Springs, just completed its draft environmental assessment. In addition to funding, FRSWCD also contributes staff and volunteer time to the project.
GFA 2024 Scholarship Due March 1
The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) provides students with opportunities to pursue agriculture-related courses of study. For the 2024 cycle, GFA is offering $65,000 in scholarships. These applications are due March 1, 2024.
