Flint River Teaches Wetland Management at Jones Center
On March 24, Perri Cooper, Flint River Soil and Water Executive Director, and Casey Cox Kerr, Mitchell County Supervisor, participated in the inaugural Wetlands Management Field Day at The Jones Center at Ichauway. Participants saw a recently burned wetland-- a rare occurrence made real by the region's ongoing drought—and learned about the restoration of geographically isolated wetlands happening not only at the Jones Center, but also with other partners across the state, such as Ducks Unlimited and Georgia DNR.
"We are incredibly lucky to have a resource such as The Jones Center at Ichauway right here in the heart of our District," says Cooper. "We look forward to this being the first of hopefully many hands-on educational field opportunities at the Jones Center, and to deepening our relationship to better understand how innovative research here translates to the surrounding farms and forests."
