Destination Ag Brings Agriculture to Life for Local Students

On April 26th, local second-grade students experienced Destination Ag, thanks to a partnership between the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, and Chehaw Park. Destination Ag is a real-world learning initiative designed to connect students with agriculture and natural resources in their everyday lives while supporting key educational standards.

Each year, schools are randomly selected from within the District’s nine-county service area to participate. This year, second-grade students from Early County Elementary School and Pelham Elementary School had the opportunity to explore the importance of pollinators in agriculture and learn about the economic impact of one of Georgia’s leading industries—the forestry sector.

To round out the day of hands-on learning, students and teachers enjoyed a wildlife presentation from experts at the Chehaw Park Zoo.

One teacher from Pelham Elementary said, “The program is so awesome! We learned so much and picked up a lot of new vocabulary!”
