FRSWCD attendee representative from Mitchell County, Raina Donalson, was awarded the $2,500 Golden Triangle RC&D Scholarship during the workshop. Raina is a rising 12th grade student at Westwood School in Camilla, Georgia.
“It is a privilege to support students in furthering their education on natural resources and conservation,” stated Marty McLendon, FRSWCD Chairman. “Awareness of environmental concerns is very valuable for future leaders like Raina and Kennedy.”
The week-long event is open to rising 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. The workshop aims to educate students on the importance of Georgia’s natural resources and provides them with a preview of college dorm life and careers related to natural resources and conservation. During the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop, attendees participated in classroom instruction from a variety of natural resources professionals, field trips to nearby outdoor areas, and recreational activities focused on natural resources.
Following the workshop, students were given a comprehensive exam. Educational scholarships were awarded based on exam scores and individual scholarship criteria. In total, 24 scholarships were awarded at this year’s event, including, two $6,500 Georgia Conservation District Scholarships to the top scoring students. Additional scholarships were sponsored by partners and supporters.
