The Flint River Soil & Water Conservation District is pleased to announce the 60thAnnual Natural Resources Conservation Workshop on June 27th – July 2nd, 2021 held at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia. The workshop is available to rising 10th, 11th, and 12thgraders in the state of Georgia.
For many years, the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop has focused on the value, protection, and conservation of Georgia’s wildlife, forestry, soil, and water resources, including conservation in Georgia’s mining industry. The mission is to educate students on the importance of Georgia’s natural resources while providing students with a preview of college life and delivering valuable insight into careers through their counselors and instructors. During the week-long event, students will participate in classroom instruction from a diverse group of natural resource professionals, field trips to nearby outdoor areas for experiential learning, as well as natural resource-based recreational activities.
A limited number of scholarships will be awarded at the conclusion of the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop based on exam scores and specific scholarship criteria. This year, Georgia Association of Conservation Districts in partnership with Georgia’s Conservation Districts, will be awarding two $6,500 scholarships to the top two scoring students at the workshop.
Due to COVID restrictions, attendance has been reduced this year to 80 total students with two students from each Conservation District. The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District is excited to award two registration scholarships. Registration is online and is now open until April 30, 2021. No paper applications will be accepted. Students interested in attending must complete the “2021 NRCW Student Application Part 1” found online at www.abac.edu/nrcw. The first two students to properly complete Part 1 of the application will receive an email from Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District with a link to complete the “2021 NRCW Student Application Part 2”. Once two completed applications have been received, all other prospective applicants will be placed on a waiting list and notified if additional spots become available.
The Natural Resources Conservation Workshop is sponsored by Georgia Association of Conservation Districts, Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Society, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
