Each year, Georgia Association of Conservation Districts hosts a statewide poster contest that is conducted by the National Association of Conservation Districts to promote conservation education to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The contest coincides with Stewardship Week, a part of NACD’s Stewardship Program that teaches students what it means to be wise stewards of our natural resources. Students participating in the Poster Contest have the opportunity to win at District, State, and National Levels.
Last year’s theme, “Where Would We BEE Without Pollinators?” reinforced the importance of pollinators to students across the state through District promotion and activities. GACD is pleased to announce Maryanna Chitty from Fort Gaines, GA as the 2020 4-6 Grade State Poster Contest Winner.
Chitty was named the overall Poster Contest Winner in the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual Poster Contest. Overall winners from each of the 40 Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District’s advance to the state level competition each year.
The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District recognized several other submissions in the annual contest at the local level. First place honors were awarded to Jake Peavy, also from Pataula Charter Academy. Jaleya Finch from Miller County won second place and Hudson Wilemon of Jones Wheat Elementary in Decatur County received third place. Camden Wilemon, Jones Wheat Elementary student, and Jalyk Finch, Miller County Elementary student, received honorable mention.
