Over the last several years, the Flint District has sponsored outdoor classrooms for regional schools. These natural learning areas provide the school with a new approach to outdoor education and experiential learning.
NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION WORKSHOP (NRCW)
NRCW is an exciting summer experience for high school students to learn about Georgia's diverse natural resources. The Flint River SWCD sponsors students within the District to attend the workshop each year, and also sponsors a scholarship for a student to win during NRCW.
The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District sponsored a grant for educators in the District's schools this year. The purpose of the grant was to provide funds for an educator to implement a new lesson or tool in the classroom to teach students about agriculture and/or natural resources.
The Flint River Soil & Water Conservation District is pleased to announce the 2017 Soil Stewardship theme: "We All Need Trees." Soil Stewardship Week will be officially celebrated April 30 to May 7, 2017, and is a fun and educational learning experience for all students!
The District sponsored a poster contest for 5th graders this year for the second time with cash prizes for winning students.
4H2O is a 3-day summer camp for elementary and middle school students in 4-H from counties across southwest Georgia. The District sponsors and participates in the event during the day at the UGA Stripling Irrigation Research Park to teach students about agriculture, water, wildlife, and the Flint River.
ALBANY WATER FESTIVAL
The District has sponsored the Albany Water Festival for the last several years. Last year, District personnel joined our partners at the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission to play Conservation Jeopardy and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service for a soil health demonstration to elementary students from all over Albany.
